Getting started

Getting started with aged care can seem like a complicated process. Fortunately, we have the knowledge, experience and empathy to make it as easy as possible for you or someone you love.

Step 1. Choose the right care

Working out what type of care you or your loved one needs is the first step towards making a good decision about residential aged care. At Bethel, we recognise that different people have different needs and that these needs may change over time. To get started, take some time to think about which accommodation option is the best fit. Step 2. Choose the right facility

Once you’ve decided on the type of care that is needed, the next step is to choose a facility that best suits your needs. At Bethel, we have aged care facilities in Coburg North and Mill Park. Both of these sites offer outstanding accommodation, meals, and lifestyle services. All facilities are fully accredited, and are owned operated by a medical doctor.

Our senior managers are Registered Nurses. We have a low turnover of staff and a generous level of staffing that exceeds the standards set by the Royal Commission. We have a Registered Nurse on-site 24/7. We employ the latest aged care technology and most critical processes and documentation are paperless to reduce the risk of errors and maximise resident outcomes.

Our Coburg North facility, Anzac Lodge has a high percentage of over 75% of residents from an Italian background. Our Mill Park facility has about 17% of residents from an Italian background with the other major cultural groups being Australian, Greek, Macedonian, Croatian and Egyptian. Take your time to think about both of these options.

Step 3. Think about the paperwork

If you’ve decided that Bethel Aged Care is a good fit for you or your loved one, we can help guide you with the next steps. There are three main things that you or a family member need to do before you can start your aged care journey. These are:

1. Organise an aged care assessment. This is your license to obtain subsidised residential aged care (all types) in any accredited Commonwealth funded facility.
2. Organise your finances and have a means test through Services Australia. This determines your fees and charges.
3. Organise a tour of the facility and select the one you are most comfortable with.
